The Ethicon Surgifoam® Hydrogel Dressing is a sterile, water-insoluble gelatin sponge designed for use in surgical procedures (except ophthalmic) to achieve hemostasis when conventional methods such as pressure or ligature are ineffective or impractical. It may be used dry or saturated with sterile sodium chloride solution and can also be used with thrombin for enhanced hemostatic effect. Surgifoam® sponges are absorbable and effective in controlling capillary, venous, and arteriolar bleeding.
