The Ethicon Surgifoam® Absorbable Gelatin Sponge (1973) is an advanced hemostatic agent designed for surgical procedures where conventional methods are insufficient or impractical. Made of porcine gelatin, the sponge can be used dry or saturated with sterile sodium chloride solution to effectively control capillary, venous, and arteriolar bleeding. Although not required, the sponge may be combined with thrombin for enhanced hemostatic effect.
